Planning & Zoning Commission

The Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z) or Planning Commission consists of 5 members appointed by the Town Council to serve staggered three-year terms without compensation.  The Commission meets as needed to conduct the ongoing planning activities of the Town.  P&Z Meetings are open to the public and the Commission actions are recommendations only to be considered for action by the Town Council.

The Commission is responsible for maintaining and periodically updating the Ravenel Comprehensive Plan; the overarching document that guides the Town's development.  Recommendations made by the P&Z are based on the whether or not a specific activity is harmonious with the Comprehensive Plan.

The P&Z also has several responsibilities regarding the Town Zoning Code.  The Commission assists with the maintenance of the Official Zoning Map and code text and may recommend amendments (rezoning changes), reviews Planned Development proposals and Preliminary Plats, and may be consulted by the Town Council or Staff regarding issues such as Conditional Uses, Site Plans, and Final Plats. 

The P&Z regular meetings are on the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall.
